Welcome to our Visitor
Center!
If you’re planning — or just considering — a visit to our church, we want to welcome you! On this page, we’ve pulled together information we hope will be helpful to you. If you have other questions, please feel free to call our church office at (805) 466-2566. Questions you might have: What time is worship? Our worship services are at 8:30 and 10:15 a.m. each Sunday morning. Both services are a blend of traditional and contemporary worship styles with full choir, anthem, scripture reading, prayer and a sermon. Where’s the coffee? Steaming cups of Fair Trade Coffee and home made cookies and other goodies are served in the Narthex kitchen area most of the morning. The real visiting happens between services so plan on staying after the 8:30 service or arriving early to the 10:15 a.m. service to get to know the congregation. What do people wear? You’ll find a variety of types of dress, from Sunday best to shorts and soccer uniforms. What matters is that you’re here. What’s it like to visit UMCA? If you join us on a typical Sunday morning, you’ll find folks of all ages, lots of children and plenty to do. Both services begin with a informal gathering time of hymn singing, followed by announcements. Adult Sunday School classe is offered during the 8:30 a.m. service and K- High School classes happen after the Children's time during the 10:15 a.m. service. What are the facilities for babies and small children? Our nursery is staffed by adults and youth who can care for your babies and small children while you study and worship. Child care is available from 8:15 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. . A separate area for infants includes cribs, changing table and rocking chairs. If you choose to keep your children with you during worship, be assured that they are welcome wherever you are. Our congregation enjoys children and works to include them whatever we are doing. We do have a cry room at the back of the sanctuary equipped with toys and a rocking chair for nursing but we hope your family will feel comfortable worshipping in the large sanctuary. Both restrooms off the Narthex area are equipped with changing tables. Who are the people working with my children? UMCA has a “safe sanctuaries” policy, which provides that children are always supervised by two persons. Most are long-time teachers with the Sunday School program. They are trained and supervised by our Director of Children's Ministries, Linda Preston. |
