United Methodist Women

LITANY ON THE PURPOSE

THE ORGANIZATION OF THE UNITED METHODIST WOMEN SHALL BE A COMMUNITY OF WOMEN…
of different colors, of different sizes, of different abilities, but all are God’s children.

WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO KNOW GOD…through study and application of scripture, through worship, alone and in the company of others, through prayer for self and others.

TO EXPERIENCE FREEDOM AS WHOLE PERSONS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST…by daring to be ourselves, by loving others, as God has loved us.

TO DEVELOP A CREATIVE, SUPPORTIVE FELLOWSHIP.. by caring for each other, praying for each other, respecting each other.

TO EXPAND CONCEPTS OF MISSION…by growing in understanding and ability to share, through study and action, through working with all persons.

THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN THE GLOBAL MINISTRIES OF THE CHURCH…by sharing God’s vision for humanity, not only in the immediate community, but “even to the ends of the earth.”

Tri-F's or Fun, Food and Fellowship
Tri-F's is a monthly potluck fellowship, with an open invitation to all church members and friends.  If you are a new church member or visitor wanting to get to know the congregation, this is a great place to make friends.   Meetings are usually held in Dexter Hall and the adjoining kitchen.  Dinner begins shortly after 6 p.m.   Bring whatever food you would like to share.   After supper you are likely to be caught up in a lively game of Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary, Scrabble or dominos.  Bring your favorite board game or just plan to hang around for good conversation.

Women's Book Group
This loosley structured discussion group meets monthly on the third Thursday at 7 p.m.  to discuss a book selected at a  previous meeting.  Anyone who wishes to discuss the current book is welcome at a meeting.   Those who have not read the book but find the subject matter interesting are encouraged to attend anyway. Books for future discussions are listed on the Library pages of this web site.

Who May Attend?

All women members of the United Methodist Church are eligible to attend meetings of  the UMW.  In addition any  person who is interested in any specific program is welcome to attend that meeting.  Please contact  the church office if you are planning to attend a meeting and are not a regular member so that you can be included in the count for the luncheon preparation.

Mission Projects
UMW budget yearly includes funds for

UM missionaries
Salvation Army
Women's Shelter
Loaves and Fishes
Sierra Service Project
Hospice
Camp Hapitok

One of our favorite mission projects is the construction of Care Bags for Child Protective Services.  Bags are filled with  various items which are useful to children who have been taken out of their homes by CPS.  The bags topped off with teddy bears and stuffed animals. Members of the whole church  get involved in this project resulting  in often as many as 100 bags
