Our Pastor is Rev. K. Cherie Jones
She
began her appointment here in August, 2001.
Prior
to her
appointment to Atascadero UMC, she served for
eleven years on the staff of Upper Room Ministries, a unit of the
General Board
of Discipleship in Nashville,
Tennessee.
From 1990-98 she served as the International Director of The Walk to
Emmaus.
From 1998-2001, she served as the Director of Resource Initiative and
Interpretation
and was a member of the launch team for the small group resource Companions
in Christ. Her work at Upper Room Ministries involved
traveling
around the United States
and to Europe, Africa, and Latin
America.
Before
moving
to Nashville,
Cherie served as United Methodist pastor in three churches in Southern California. For two years, 1982-4, she
served as the
associate pastor of La Jolla
United Methodist
Church, a
medium size church
near San
Diego.
Then she served for four years, 1984-88, as
the senior pastor of Dominguez UMC, a small church in Carson,
California. She served as senior
pastor of San Marcos
UMC, a medium sized church located north of San Diego for
one and a half years,
1988-1990. An elder
in the
California-Pacific Annual Conference, Cherie has had an active role in
leadership on the conference and district levels, including district
Committees
on Ordained Ministry, conference Nominations Committee and the
Conference Board
of Ordained Ministry. She currently is on the Annual Conference Worship
Committee and serves on the General Church Task Force on Science,
Technology,
and Theology. She has had articles published in Alive Now,
Upper
Room
Disciplines (1992, 1994), A Guide to Spiritual
Discernment
(edited
by Bishop Rueben Job), and will be published in Upper Room
Disciplines, 2004.
Cherie
has her
BA in Experimental Psychology from the University
of California,
San Diego (1977) and
her M.Div. (with a
concentration in Marriage and Family Ministries) from Fuller
Theological
Seminary in Pasadena,
CA
(1982).
She is completing a Doctor of Ministry degree at Wesley
Seminary
in Washington
D.C.
